Schools closed: The threat of Cyclone ‘Dana’ looms over Odisha and West Bengal. The low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal could develop into a severe cyclonic storm on October 23 and could hit the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on October 24. Keeping security in mind, the West Bengal government has declared a four-day holiday in nine districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata. Here all public schools will remain closed for five days, from October 23 to 27 (Sunday).
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that in view of Cyclone ‘Dana’, government schools in nine districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, will remain closed from October 23 to 26. He said the government has stocked up relief materials and prepared cyclone shelters in coastal areas.
During a press conference at the state secretariat, CM Mamata Banerjee said that the principal secretaries of various departments have taken charge of the districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Bankura, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Jhargram. They will be attentive to the situation. The ministers of these districts will not leave the station until the cyclone passes. He said as a precautionary measure, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centers will also remain closed.
Mamata Banerjee said, “ICDS centers will remain closed during this period. Tourist activities have stopped in coastal towns. Fishermen going to the Bay of Bengal have been asked to return.”
We tell you that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Monday that from the night of October 24 to the morning of October 25, the wind speed will reach 60 kilometers per hour (kph) on the coast and 100 -110 kmph. There is a possibility of increase, which can increase up to 120 kilometers per hour.
