During the day, people did a lot of shopping in the markets and at night they wished Diwali by sending sweets to the houses of friends and relatives and setting off fireworks. In view of the crowd gathered in the markets, the administration took strict security measures. On the occasion of Diwali, people started coming to the market from Thursday morning. Throughout the day there was a lot of bustle in the markets. Merchants had also launched sales due to the avalanche of customers.
There was a fair atmosphere throughout the day at the city’s Punjabi Market, Jhanj Gate, Fawwara Chowk, Sarafa Market, Kandy Market and Rani Talab. As the day progressed, the number of people in the market also increased. People celebrated the festival of Diwali by lighting lamps outside their houses and shops at night. People congratulated each other on Diwali by giving each other sweets. People had decorated their houses with lamps.
Whose beauty was visible at night. Despite the ban, people across the district set off fireworks late into the night. The sound of firecrackers could be heard far and wide. Although the district administration had banned the sale of fireworks, there was still a huge sale of firecrackers. People continued setting off fireworks until late into the night. The police administration had taken strict security measures to ensure that no untoward incident took place on Diwali on Thursday night. Police teams continued patrolling throughout the night.
Sugarcane, bananas, mangoes and serous leaves sell well
To worship Lakshmi on Diwali, sugarcane is required along with peels, banana leaves and serous leaves. Given this, stalls were set up in various parts of the city to sell these products. Farmers had brought sugarcane from their fields on tractor carts to Devi Lal Chowk, Patiala Chowk and other places in the city and this sugarcane was sold hand to hand. Similarly, bananas, mangoes and serous leaves were also sold in abundance for the worship of Lakshmi.
This time, instead of the glow of Chinese lamps, the glow of lamps in houses was seen. The fireworks were also less visible than last year. In addition to lighting lamps, people also lit candles in their homes. This time too in the markets, instead of selling movie posters, more posters of Lakshmi and Ganesh, children and scenery were sold. Poster seller Kapil said the demand for posters of Gods and Goddesses was higher this time than last time. Instead of buying sweets, people were inclined to buy Jalebi made with desi ghee.
