Matangi, the first autonomous surface ship built in the country, set a new record on Friday. This boat traveled a distance of 600 kilometers without a driver. This ship built by Sagar Defense Company is to cover the distance from Mumbai to Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. On its first stop, this vessel completed a 600-kilometer journey in autonomous mode. The specialty of this boat is that it can be used with or without a driver.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had deactivated the Navy’s Sagarmala Parikrama during the Swavalamban 2024 program in Delhi. This unmanned ship was also included in this program. His incorporation into the Navy will provide him with new strength. This is a major achievement in the Indian government’s efforts to become self-reliant in the defense sector.

What is the specialty?

It is the first autonomous surface ship manufactured in the country that can navigate without a crew and fulfill its mission. It will be used for surveillance and security. It is also equipped with many types of high-tech sensors, weapons and drones, which make this ship different.

Many such weapons have been installed on this ship, making it suitable for aggressive missions. If necessary, this ship can also attack the enemy. In addition to aerial drones, it also has seven underwater drones. Aerial drones increase their range in the air, making it easier to track.

Travel from Mumbai to Tuticorin

This ship built by Sagar Defense will complete the 1,500 kilometer journey from Mumbai to Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu without a crew as part of the Sagarmala Parikrama. Matangi is equipped with locally developed navigation and collision avoidance software. In the first phase, Matangi has covered a distance of 600 kilometers from Mumbai to Karwar in autonomous mode and is yet to cover a distance of 1,000 kilometers to Tuticorin.
