At least 11 people were killed on Friday when the concrete roof of a railway station collapsed in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. Interior Minister Ivica Decis said at least three people were admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

In addition to an ambulance, teams from other emergency services were sent to the scene and are searching for people and removing debris with excavators. In the images from the surveillance cameras, people are seen sitting on benches under the roof, which is seen suddenly falling. The building was recently renovated.

11 people died after the train station roof collapsed

The country’s Interior Minister Ivica Dasic said 11 people died after a concrete roof collapsed at a railway station in northern Serbia. Around noon local time, people were sitting on benches outside the station in Novi Sad, Serbia’s second city, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reported.

The repair was done this year.

Dacic said rescuers are in contact with a girl and two other people buried under the rubble. The train station building was renovated in 2021 and renovated again this year to officially open on July 5.

It was built in 1964.

Serbian media quoted the Serbian Railway Infrastructure, the body responsible for the concrete canopy, as saying that although it was built in 1964, it was not rebuilt along with the station. According to media reports, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said everyone was found responsible. Its maintenance will be responsible.
