Maharashtra: Will the Congress be able to improve its position against the BJP in these elections? – Maharashtra electoral Congress and BJP’s direct fight Vidarbha Assembly NTC segment

Of the 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra, there are 75 seats where there is a direct contest between the Congress and the BJP. Let’s take a look at how the Congress performed against the BJP in the last assembly elections. In the last elections, there was a tussle between the BJP and the Congress over 66 seats, of which the Congress won 16 and the BJP won 50 seats.

This time in 2024, if we look at the regional seat distribution between the BJP and the Congress, then the BJP has fielded a maximum of 47 candidates against the Congress in Vibharbha. After this, there are 32 seats in western Maharashtra, 17 in northern Maharashtra, 19 in Marathwada and 33 in Konkan, including Thane and Mumbai.

BJP vs Congress in 2019 Assembly elections:

vidarbha: In the 2019 assembly elections, there was contest for 31 seats, of which the Congress won 8 and the BJP won 23 seats. This time also most of the seats are in this area. The voting pattern in the Vidarbha region could be important in forming the next government in the state while the state presidents of both the parties are from this region. BJP MP Devendra Fadnavis and Congress opposition leader Vijay Vedattiwar also hail from this area.

Mumbai: The BJP and the Congress contested 12 seats and the Congress won one seat (Aslam Shaikh from Malad West). It will be interesting to see how urban voters vote in the state and whether Shiv Sena’s alliance with UBT can help the Congress.

Northern Maharashtra: In north Maharashtra, both parties contested six seats and the Congress won two seats.

Marathwada: In this region, both parties contested 10 seats and Congress won 3 seats.

Western Maharashtra: BJP and Congress fought elections for 7 seats here and Congress won 2 seats.
