Amid the current tension between Canada and India, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, wishing Diwali, assured Hindus living in the country of safety so that they can practice their religion without any fear. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said: As we celebrate Hindu Heritage Month in Canada in November, let us celebrate Diwali with the community.
The statement said Diwali is a special festival of Hindu Canadians, one of Canada’s largest and most diverse immigrants. We will always stand with Hindu Canadians to ensure their safety and security so that they can practice their religion freely and proudly.
Trudeau praised the contribution of people of Indian origin
Describing the contribution of people of Indian origin to the development of Canada, Trudeau said: Diwali in Canada would not have been possible without our incredible Indo-Canadian community. Indian-Canadians represent the best of Canada, and a large number of them work in fields such as artists, entrepreneurs, doctors, teachers, business, community and culture. On Diwali, we celebrate him and the light he spread throughout Canadian communities.

Trudeau said in the statement: “On behalf of all Canadians, I wish you all a very happy Diwali.” May this festival of lights bring us happiness, joy and prosperity.
Relations between India and Canada deteriorated
In September last year, there was a serious strain on relations between the two countries after Trudeau alleged that Indian agents were involved in the murder of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has rejected Trudeau’s allegations as “absurd.” India says the main problem between the two countries is that Canada is giving space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from the ground without any punishment.
India has strongly rejected attempts by Canadian authorities to link Indian agents to criminal gangs in Canada.
