Live Jammu-Kashmir Assembly Session (Aaj Samaj), Jammu: After the formation of the government in Jammu and Kashmir last month, the first session of the State Assembly has begun today. The five-day session began with the address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Following this, senior National Conference (NC) leader and seven-time MLA Abdul Rahim Rather was elected Assembly Speaker. Rather (80) was elected president by voice vote after the opposition decided not to run for office. The ‘protem president’ Mubarak Gul led the electoral process.

CM congratulated Abdul Rahim Rather
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Abdul Rahim Rather on his election as Assembly Speaker. The Chief Minister said that I congratulate him on behalf of the entire House. Earlier, there was a continuous uproar in the House during the Lt. Governor’s speech.

North Carolina called a joint legislative party meeting on Sunday
Ahead of the first session of the Assembly, the National Conference (NC), the ruling party, had called a meeting of the Joint Legislative Party with its alliance partners on Sunday. Besides the NC, Congress, CPIM and some independent MLAs attended this meeting. The meeting discussed the strategy of the alliance in the Assembly session, the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the speech of the Lieutenant Governor. At the Joint Legislative Party meeting, he expressed concern over the current security situation in the state and also agreed to seriously raise this issue in the session.
