The Supreme Court has refused to consider the PIL to be heard in Hindi. The case was being heard by the bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice JB Padriwala. During this, the petitioner was asked why relief was sought only for Hindi in the PIL. While cases from all states in the country are presented before the Supreme Court.
The validity of Article 348(1) is challenged
The petitioner had challenged the validity of Article 348(1) of the Constitution before the Supreme Court. During this time, the petitioner had also demanded a hearing in Hindi in South Carolina. In fact, Article 348(1) provides that hearings must be held in English in all High Courts in the country, including the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court has refused to consider it.
Why only Hindi in the petition?
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asked the petitioner who filed the PIL why only in Hindi, when we have cases filed in all states of the country. In such a situation, the hearing should now be held in all Indian languages recognized by the Constitution.
