Uproar over proposal against Article 370 in JK Assembly

There was a stir in the newly formed Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the first day on Monday, when a resolution against Article 370 was tabled. The ruling National Conference (NC) has also criticized the proposal. This proposal was presented by MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Parra of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in protest against Article 370. At the same time, other parties in the valley expressed their support in this regard.

Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah also ignored this move by the PDP MLA in the House. The National Conference said that this step by PDP MLA from Pulwama Parra has been taken with an objective to circumvent the proposal of the Jammu and Kashmir government on this issue. However, the ruling party said that it is hopeful that when the ruling party brings this proposal during the session, all the MLAs will support it.

BJP strongly opposed Parra’s proposal

The ruling National Conference posted on Twitter: ‘This was a very smart effort by the PDP MLA. Their clear objective was to frustrate the government’s initiative to present the proposal. Pulwama MLA Parra protesting against the repeal of Article 370. A resolution was tabled in the Assembly demanding restoration of the special status of the erstwhile state. After that a commotion began in the house.

Parra moved his proposal soon after Abdul Rahim Rather, seven-time MP from Jammu and Kashmir, was elected the first speaker of the Union Territory Assembly. BJP MLAs strongly opposed Parra’s proposal and all 28 party MLAs rose from their seats. Parra later said his proposal was to restore the legacy of NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.

Parra’s party said it was proud of the measure. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti welcomed this step. Mehbooba Mufti wrote in God bless him.

In a separate post, he expressed gratitude to People’s Conference and Handwara chief MLA Sajad Lone, Shopian MLA Shabir Kulle and Langate MLA Sheikh Khurshid for supporting Parra’s proposal. Lone said he fully supports any proposal calling for the restoration of Article 370.
