Many people have died due to the eruption of a volcano in Indonesia and many villages have been evacuated. Giving information about this incident, the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency said that at least 10 people died due to the volcanic eruption on the country’s Flores island on Monday.
Farman Yusuf, an official at Mount Levotobi, located in the eastern part of the country, said that due to the explosion that occurred after midnight on Monday, ashes spread up to 2,000 meters into the air. Due to the hot ashes, many nearby towns were hit, so many houses were also burned, including a convent school for Catholic nuns.
Rescue efforts continue
National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Abdul Muhri said rescue work is continuing. Many bodies buried under the rubble of houses that collapsed due to volcanic eruptions are still being searched. Muhari reported that all the bodies found so far have been found within a four kilometer radius.
The volcanic eruptions affected six villages in Wulangitang district and four villages in Ile Bura district. This incident has affected at least 10,000 local residents living here. The country’s volcanology agency has increased the alert zone to seven kilometers due to the volcanic eruption.
Many volcanoes are active in the country.
The geographical location of Indonesia is located on the Ring of Fire, so there are many active volcanoes here, so people have to face problems in many parts of the country. Since the beginning of this year, this volcano has erupted several times. So about two thousand people have abandoned their homes. In 2018, a volcanic eruption in Indonesia caused a tsunami that killed 430 people.
