The four-day long Chhath festival begins with Nahay-Khay. Every year one has to bathe and eat in the Chaturthi Tithi month of Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month. This year, Nahay Khay is on November 5, 2024, i.e. Tuesday. On the day of Nahay Khay, sattvika food is prepared for the fasting person. This means that onion and garlic are not used even by mistake on this day. Fasting women bathe, worship and consume sattvika food. On the day of Nahay Khay, pumpkin vegetables and rice are eaten. Actually, there is a tendency to prepare pumpkin or pumpkin vegetables on this day. This is the first Chhath Prasad fast consumed by the fasting person and his family members. Without these, the Chhath fast is considered incomplete. In such a situation, let us tell you how to make pumpkin vegetables in Nahay Khay Prasad.

Ingredients to make bottle gourd curry:

1 tablespoon ghee, 1 bottle pumpkin, pinch of cumin, half a bowl of gram dal, green coriander, 1 tablespoon garam masala.

Method to make bottle gourd vegetable:

  • First step: First wash a pumpkin and peel it well. Now we will cut it into small pieces. Add a pinch of cumin and chili to 1 tablespoon of ghee and temper. After that, add chopped pumpkin pieces to it.

  • Second step: When the pumpkin pieces soften a little, mix in the soaked gram and add the garam masala as well. Now let the vegetables cook over medium heat.

  • Third step: When the pumpkin is completely melted, garnish it with cilantro. Light 2 lamps in front of the image of Chhath Maiya and offer vegetable gourd and bhata (rice) to Mata. Perform the ritual puja and then consume this prasad.
