As per the new rules, the government itself will now appoint the DGP and his minimum tenure will be two years. A nomination committee will be formed under the chairmanship of a retired High Court judge for the appointment of the DGP.

We tell you that the Cabinet has approved the Selection of the UP Police Chief and the Regulation 2024 for the selection of the DGP in UP. Now the DGP will be selected by a committee headed by a retired High Court judge. Once selected, the DGP will last 2 years. This will require that you have 6 months of service remaining at the time of selection.

Along with this, it is also said in the rules that in case of any criminal or corruption case or failure to perform his duties, the state government can remove the DGP from office even before the end of his two-year term. on this These It has also been said that the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court have been followed in the provisions relating to the removal of the Director General of Police from office.

As soon as the news of the change in the DGP appointment process broke, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav attacked the Yogi government on the social media platform without mentioning anyone’s name. Akhilesh said, ‘I have heard that a system is being created to give permanent posting to a senior officer and extend his tenure by two years. The question is whether those who create the system will stay for 2 years or not. The SP chief further said that this is not an attempt to take the reins away from Delhi.
