You will also receive a message and call from scammers, in which a message similar to a UPI transaction will be sent to you in the name of transferring money to your family member. You will then be informed that they have sent you more money by mistake, you will have to refund the remaining amount. How to avoid UPI refund fraud
- To avoid this type of fraud, first of all you should not panic when faced with calls from unknown numbers and act with patience. Many times scammers scare you by taking the names of your acquaintances, so that you can easily get caught in their trap.
- Out of nervousness you do not properly check the messages received on the phone. Any type of online transaction message is sent by the bank from a special number, which is registered with the telecom operators. If you received a message about an online transaction from a mobile number, then it must be from scammers.
- Apart from this, you can also verify the transaction by accessing your UPI app. When accessing apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, you will have to go to the transaction history, where you can see the history of every transaction made through UPI. If you do not see the amount and transaction mentioned by the hackers there, then you must understand that an attempt is being made to scam you.
With these simple methods, you can prevent UPI refund fraud from happening to you. After detecting the hackers, you will have to report the messages sent and the numbers called by them on the Chakshu portal. If you wish, you can also lodge a complaint on Cyber Crime Helpline: 1930.
