The first step towards the next season of the Indian Premier League has been taken and all 10 teams have revealed the names of their retained players. With the first phase over, the most important round i.e. the mega auction is now eagerly awaited. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially announced the date and venue. After several days of speculations, it became clear that the IPL 2025 mega auction will take place in Jeddah, the big city of Saudi Arabia. This two-day auction will take place on November 24 and 25.
The decision changed at the last minute.
A day earlier, it was reported that the auction would be held in the city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, but on Tuesday, November 5, the BCCI officially announced that this time the player auction will be held in Jeddah. The Indian Board has reportedly taken the decision to shift headquarters at the last minute. This is only the second time in IPL history that the auction will be held outside India. Prior to this, last year’s auction was held in Dubai.
Auction in Saudi Arabia for the first time
This is the first time that the IPL player auction will be held in a city in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has increased its interest in cricket, especially the IPL, in recent years. The BCCI had also discussed this matter with Saudi Arabian officials two seasons ago. Not only this, Saudi Arabia’s largest oil company Aramco has also become the biggest sponsor of IPL for the last three seasons. In this situation, this time organizing the auction in Saudi Arabia is considered an important step in the expansion of the league and cricket in this country.
