The Municipal Corporation used the Nawabi (monkey) period mark.

Bhopal: In the process of changing the names of cities, streets, intersections and buildings, in the year 2017, the BJP government changed the symbol (Monkey) of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation given by the Nizam of Hyderabad to a new symbol. Now this brand has become the center of controversy. BJP councilors along with Hindu organizations have raised objections to the Nawab symbols seen on many new and old hoardings of the Municipal Corporation across the city.

These billboards of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation that give information about the routes of various areas of the capital Bhopal are the subject of controversy these days. The motif is the symbol of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation with two fish visible in the images. In 2017, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation renamed it Raja Bhoj, calling it a symbol of slavery. The ancient two-fish symbol is visible on the Municipal Corporation’s road sign installed 100 meters from the Chief Minister’s residence. Controversy arose when the emblem awarded by Hyderabad Nizam once again appeared on billboards.

Nizam of Hyderabad gifted the emblem of two fishes.

Bhopal is considered the city of the nawabs. It is said that the Nawab of Bhopal along with the Nawab of Hyderabad and Junagadh had refused to merge with India. During this time, the Nizam of Hyderabad had given the emblem of two fishes to the Nawab of Bhopal. Since joining India till the formation of Madhya Pradesh and after Bhopal became the capital, the Municipal Corporation continued to use this two fish symbol and the Ashoka symbol as the symbol of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation for a long time. . But in 2017, the Mayor’s Council changed this symbol to a symbol with the image of Raja Bhoj. In such a situation, once again when the old logo appeared everywhere, controversy arose. The Hindu organization termed it as a symbol of slavery and mentality of Mughal era officers and demanded imposition of NSA against the officers.

Symbols are removed from municipal billboards

After controversy arose and objection from the Hindu organisation, the symbols are now being removed from the Municipal Corporation’s hoardings across Bhopal. Jagdish Yadav, mayor of the council, says the license of the agency that installed these hoardings will be canceled and action will be taken against the officials.

The Congress also appears to be probing the dispute over the symbol between the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation and its own councilors and Hindu organisations. Congress leader PC Sharma said the BJP is not concerned with issues but is seen as dividing Hindus and Muslims on all issues.
