Due to this news, not only has there been mourning on the streets of his native village, Raghopur, in Supaul, but the entire Supaul is in deep sadness and shock. Everyone here, from children to old people, is wondering who will wake up Chhathi Maiya. Now who will sing ‘Sunflowers sprinkled on Kelva leaves…’. Since the news of his illness broke, Havan Yagya was performing at various places in Supaul district.
People wished for his speedy recovery. Sharda Sinha reached the peak of her fame by singing Chhathi Maiya songs, on the first day of Chhath Puja, Chhathi Maiya called her to herself. Folk singer Maithili Thakur reacted to the news of folk singer Sharda Sinha’s demise. He said he grew up listening to Sharda Sinha. His demise is very sad for the Bhojpuri society. Elder Rajesh Pandit, a resident of Raghopur block in Supaul, says there was magic in Sharda Sinha’s voice.
Chhathi Maiya gained recognition through songs
She has been singing songs since she was little. Every time I went to a show, people were fascinated. Rajesh Pandit says Chhathi Maiya songs are widely played on loudspeakers across the country and the world. But the credit for bringing these songs to the country and the world goes to Sharda Sinha. People of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are in shock following the news of Sharda Sinha’s death. He says that though Sharda Sinha has sung many songs, her real identity comes only from Chhathi Maiya songs.
Sharda Sinha had an emotional bond with the people.
This is the reason why he was considered synonymous with Chhathi Maiya songs. She has been a source of inspiration for the girls of the Bhojpuri society. On the other hand, people of Hulas village say that even after achieving so much fame, Sharda Sinha was still the daughter and sister of the people of the village. Every time he went to the village, he met everyone and asked about their well-being. He had an emotional bond with his people until the last moments of his life. According to villagers, Sharda Sinha was born on October 1, 1952 in Hulas and did her primary education in the village itself.
His ancestral home is still there in the town.
However, he went to Samastipur for further studies. There he practiced and obtained recognition. His manor house still exists in the village. Due to lack of maintenance for a long time, this tiled house has fallen into ruins. However, many of his memories are still present here. His brother has built a new house and lives near this house. His other brothers live outside the town. Upon hearing the news of his demise, all the brothers left for Delhi with great sadness.
Bhojpuri song sung at 22 years old

Sharda Sinha’s father Sukhdev Thakur was an official in the education department. For the first time in his public life, he sang his first Bhojpuri song at the age of 22. It was the year 1974 when he started practicing Bhojpuri songs. In 1978, Chhathi Maiya’s first song ‘Ug Ug Ho Suruj Dev’ was recorded.
