Eastern Railway CPRO Kaushik Mitra on Wednesday said that 920 EMU locals leave Sealdah railway station every day. Also, 23 lakh people come to Sealdah railway station every day. Eastern Railway has also said it will not operate 190 local trains on the Sealdah division from Thursday night to Friday 10am. The official said the move was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of railway passengers.

According to the news, the meteorological office said that the cyclone is likely to hit the coast between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port in Odisha early on Friday, during which winds may reach a speed of 120 km per hour. With the arrival of the cyclone, heavy rain will fall in many districts of South Bengal on October 24 and 25. Eastern Railway (ER) official said the canceled trains include 13 up and 11 down trains on Sealdah-Canning section, 15 up and 10 down trains on Sealdah-Laxmikantpur section.
Apart from this, 15 up and 14 down trains on the Sealdah-Budge Budge section, 15 up and 15 down trains on the Sealdah-Diamond Harbor section, 7 up and nine local trains on the Sealdah-Baruipur section and 11 uphill at Sealdah-Barasat/Hasnabad AND nine downhill local trains are included.

The last train from Hasnabad and Namkhana stations (which are close to the coastal areas of the 24 districts of North and South Parganas respectively) will leave for Sealdah at 7 pm on October 24, the official said. He said further decisions regarding the operation of trains in Sealdah division will be taken after assessing the situation. South Eastern Railways announced on Tuesday that more than 150 express and passenger trains running through its region had been canceled in the wake of the cyclone. Eastern Railway also canceled around 198 trains passing through its area on Tuesday.
