Army chief gives big update on violence in Manipur.
Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday outlined a three-step strategy aimed at increasing unity in the armed forces. This announcement has been made at a time when the Indian Army is preparing to present its theatrics model to the government. This is considered an important step to ensure better utilization of armed forces resources for future wars.
General Dwivedi, during his address at the Decade of Transformation: Indian Army Forwards Future and Nation Building program at the National Defense College, said that under Jointness 1.0, efforts will be made to integrate procurement, training curriculum and operational logistics. Attention has been paid to the nodes between the armed forces. Of them, three nodes are fully operational and four more are in progress.
How is the army advancing?
He said Jointness 2.0 has taken steps forward in establishing Army doctrines, SOPs (standard operating procedures) and establishing joint maintenance organizations for major equipment. At the same time, under Jointness 3.0, the Army aims to expand and advance the joint operational planning process, share technology and resources such as UAVs and ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance).
The Army Chief said that around 180 areas have been identified in this direction, of which 30% of the objective has been achieved and the rest is being worked on at a rapid pace. In addition, large-scale efforts are also being made to integrate the Central Armed Police Forces with the armed forces.
Here a theatrical model will be carried out.
The theatrics model plans to establish a China-centric Northern Theater Command in Lucknow, a Pakistan-centric Western Theater Command in Jaipur and a Maritime Theater Command in Thiruvananthapuram. Through this model, greater coordination and better utilization of capabilities between the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force will be ensured.
At the Joint Commanders’ Conference held in Lucknow on September 5, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the need to strengthen the union, prepare for future wars and give a quick and coordinated response to any provocation. The Army Chief had recently said that the initial pace in this direction was slow, but it is now accelerating.
