This historic pond located in the Kanpur CSA campus is in poor condition.
The city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh is a historic city in itself. Kanpur has been a subject of debate since the Ramayana period. Be it Sita Rasoi in Bithoor or Khunti of Brahma, each has its own historical significance. One such pond is located on the campus of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), which mourns its plight.
Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural University, Kanpur is a well-known name for agriculture related education across the country. Students from far away places come here to pursue their studies. On the CSA campus there is a historic pond that is 186 years old and has been completely destroyed. Many attempts were made to solve it, but the plan could not materialize.
Which British officer built this pond?
There was a famine in the country in the decade of 1837. At that time there was British rule. Under the supervision of Magistrate IC Wilson, the construction of this pond and the stairs around it was started with the voluntary contribution of the citizens of Kanpur to provide employment to the starving poor in the year 1837-1838 during the famine, which was built by the British was completed through the hard work of the prisoners, at a cost of 12,000 rupees by the government.
Several attempts were made to restore the tabal.
Now this pond is completely desolate. With the aim of renewing it, an agreement was signed by the CSA administration with the Rotary Club under the PPP model, but for some reasons it was not possible. After this, a plan for the MP Theater was also drawn here, under which there will be water in the middle of the pond and a rotating stage will be built on it. Seating will be available around the pond and can be rented for any program. This plan could not be possible either.
A ray of hope appeared after TV9’s initiative
In this regard, the TV9 team spoke to Dr. Anand Kumar Singh of CSA VC. He said earlier efforts were made, but some problems arose, so the plan could not be implemented. He said that this matter has now been discussed with the administration and the pond will be renovated with CSR funds. If all goes well, soon this historic pond will be visible to the public in its original form.
