The years-long wait for the metro in Indore, known as the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh, may end by early 2025. Initially, the metro will run on the highest priority 5.9 km stretch between the Gandhi Nagar station of the city and station number 3 of the super corridor, where its test was carried out in September 2023.
An official said we are trying to start metro operations on this route early in the new year. For this, our different tests are being carried out on the route.
He said that the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation will submit its report to the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner as soon as these tests are completed, after which the CMRS team will inspect this route and take stock of the arrangements. The commercial operation of the metro on this route can only be started after the green signal from CMRS.
Metro Rail Corporation said the city’s subway stations are designed in such a way that six-car trains can run through them. However, initially we will run with a three-car train. As the number of passengers increases, three more coaches can be added. About 300 passengers can travel in a subway compartment, of which 50 people are sitting in their seats.
The foundation stone of the first phase of the Metro Rail project in Indore was laid on September 14, 2019, with a total cost of Rs 7,500.80 crore. Within this framework, a metro rail corridor of approximately 31.50 kilometers in length will be built in the city.
