Karnataka Waqf dispute: JPC president Jagdambika Pal meets farmers, attacks state govt

Jagdambika Pal, Chairman, JPC on Waqf Amendment Act.

Jagadambika Pal, chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Amendment Act, visited Hubli on Thursday to review the Waqf dispute in Karnataka. After the visit, Jagdambika Pal stated that all this could not be done without the cooperation of the administrative machinery. Following the instructions of the state government, the Waqf property has been mentioned in the farmers’ documents.

He said that in the documents, farmers’ lands, temples and heritage sites have been described as Waqf property. A delegation of 10 to 15 farmers was expected to submit a memorandum. However, more than 70 reports have been received in this regard.

They said that All this cannot happen without the cooperation of the administrative system. As per the instructions of the state government, it has been declared the property of the Waqf. He has said that now the state government is saying that they will withdraw the notice given to the farmers. Property cannot be confiscated without the state government. How do officials work without instructions from the government? Expressing anger against the Congress government in Karnataka, he said this is a very serious issue.

Will prepare a report after hearing the complaints.

Jagdambika Pal said we will take all the reports seriously and prepare a report. He said that the Central Government is going to amend the ‘Waqf Law-2024’. MP Tejasvi Surya drew my attention to the problems of Karnataka. Even in a state like Delhi, farmers face problems with the Waqf Board. Suddenly, the Waqf Board is reclaiming those lands on which farmers have been cultivating for decades.

He said that the Waqf Board is going to reclaim the land on which it has been cultivated for the last 60-70 years. That’s why farmers are protesting. Today I visited Hubli and I am also visiting Vijaypur district. Waqf claims not only the agricultural lands of the farmers but also the heritage of the Department of Antiquities.

Waqf Board claims farmers’ land, according to allegations

Let us tell you that when the Waqf dispute deepened in Karnataka, MP Tejashwi Surya had written a letter to Jagadambika Pal in this regard a few days ago. He had requested to invite a delegation of farmers from Karnataka as witnesses before the committee. Now the chairman of the parliamentary committee has personally reached the state and heard the farmers’ complaints.

On the other hand, Congress alleges that during the previous BJP government a circular was issued to register the name of Waqf in the land records of farmers. Meanwhile, the day-long protest by BJP leaders and farmers continues in Vijaypur. The JPC president will also go there and listen to the grievances of the farmers.
