The National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued a statement on Wednesday. In which it was said that a special court in Lucknow convicted a person from Gujarat for conspiring with Pakistani intelligence agency ISI to carry out terrorist activities in the country.
This traitor to the country has been identified as Rajkbhai Kumbhar, a resident of Gujarat. The NIA statement said Rajkbhai Kumbhar is the second accused convicted in the case registered in the year 2020.
The statement said that on Tuesday, the special NIA court sentenced accused Rajkabhai Kumbhar to rigorous imprisonment under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He now faces a maximum sentence of six years. The statement said all sentences will be carried out at the same time.
According to PTI, earlier, the special NIA court had convicted Rashid, a resident of Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh, in this case. The case against him was originally registered by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Gomti Nagar, alleging that Rashid was in touch with agents of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The ATS had accused him of providing photographs of sensitive, strategic and important places in India, as well as activities of the Indian Army, to Pakistani agents. The NIA said these photographs, including defense marks, were clicked on his mobile phone.
The central agency, which took charge of the case in April 2020, filed a charge sheet against Rashid in July 2020 and subsequently a supplementary charge sheet was filed against Rajkbhai Kumbhar in February 2021.
The NIA said the agency’s investigation has revealed that Rajkbhai Kumbhar had conspired with Rashid and Pakistan-based ISI agents to commit terrorist acts, and also made preparations for their commission.
The NIA said the two had also conspired to conceal nefarious anti-India designs carried out by Pakistan-based agents. According to the NIA, Rajkbhai Kumbhar had provided money to Rashid in exchange for confidential photographs sent to ISI agents and had helped him in this work.
