Clouds of crisis are hanging over the pensions of four former MLAs, including former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala. Despite the court’s ruling, a petition has been filed before the Punjab-Haryana High Court to grant pension to these honorable people. A response was requested from all those accused in this case to the petition.
All these people were convicted by the court in different cases. Even after punishment, these honorable people received pension from the Haryana government. Regarding which a petition has been filed before the Punjab-Haryana High Court. The court has sought response to this petition from former Chief Minister Chautala, former Assembly Speaker Satbir Singh Kadian’s representative, former MLAs Ajay Chautala and Sher Singh Badshami. The High Court has asked these people why their pension should not be suspended.

In fact, Harichand Arora, a Chandigarh-based lawyer, has filed this petition in the High Court. The lawyer says he had sought information from the Assembly Secretariat regarding the pensions of former judicial deputies under the Right to Information Act. Under which it was revealed that 4 convicted former MLAs are also receiving pension.

“It is illegal to receive a pension even after punishment”
The petitioner claims that Omprakash Chautala, Ajay Chautala and Sher Singh Badshami were sentenced to 10 years in prison on December 16, 2013 on corruption charges. Satbir Kadian was also sentenced to seven years in prison on August 26, 2016. In such a situation, giving pension to these people is completely illegal and is also a misuse of public money.
Advocate Harichand Arora informed the court that in this case he had filed a petition before the Assembly Secretary to suspend the pension. During the debate in the High Court, petitioner Arora said that as per Section 7-A (1-A) of the Haryana Legislative Assembly (Salary, Allowances and Pensions of Members) Act, 1975, if the court sentences any MLA, then he will not be entitled to receive pension. In such a situation, it is not right to give pension to these people.
