Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday congratulated Donald Trump for winning the US election as the 47th president. In his first public comments on the US election results, the Russian leader said he was willing to talk to Trump. He stressed the need to work to restore relations between the United States and Russia and end the war in Ukraine.
With relations between the two countries at an all-time low, particularly over US support for Ukraine, Putin said Russia is ready to improve relations with the US, but the ball is in the US’s court.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him (Trump) on his election as president of the United States,” Putin said during an international forum after the speech in the Black Sea town of Sochi.
Putin said that Trump, who has expressed his desire to restore relations with Russia and has talked about helping to end the Ukrainian crisis, in my opinion it is important to at least pay attention to this.
On what he expects from Trump becoming president for the second time, Putin said: “I don’t know what will happen now. I have no idea. For him, this is still his last presidential term. What he will do depends on him.” It’s a matter.”
Putin called Trump a brave man
The Russian president also said he was impressed by the way Trump conducted himself after the July assassination attempt, calling him a “brave man.” Putin said: “I was impressed by Trump’s behavior during the assassination attempt. He is brave. As a human being, he did the right thing. I don’t know what he will do now.”
I am ready to talk to Trump: Putin
On reports of a possible phone call between the two leaders before his inauguration in January, Putin said: “I don’t think it’s wrong to have a phone call with Trump. If some world leaders want to restore contacts, I’m not against it.” I’m ready to talk to Trump.
Let us tell you that Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday. This is his historic victory because in the 132 years of American history, he has become the first former president to win re-election. He has defeated Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in this election.
