Rock star Yash himself has confirmed in an interview that he will play the role of Ravana in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer film ‘Ramayana’. He spoke about playing the character of Ravana for the first time and also told why he agreed to play this character in ‘Ramayana’.
Yash told how he got involved with ‘Ramayana’
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash said that after KGF Chapter 2, he was in Los Angeles to watch his upcoming film ‘Toxic’ and was learning the ways of working in Hollywood. There he met Namit Malhotra, owner of visual effects company DNEG and Prime Focus, for the visual effects of ‘Toxic’, who also works on ‘Ramayana’ and is also a co-producer of the film.
Yash said he was discussing with Namit how ‘Toxic’ could be taken to the next level and what could be interesting. Meanwhile, Namit spoke to Yash about ‘Ramayana’, which he has been working on for many years. Yash said, “He told what his vision is and how he is finding it difficult to assemble the cast for this film. I liked that person and I really liked his vision. Yash also spoke about casting Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi for the film. He said that when he joined the film, only Ranbir Kapoor’s name had been finalized. He said, ‘Ranbir being cast, Sai Pallavi and the rest of the cast is a collaborative decision of ours. I feel that to make this film a great film, it should have the best actors from both the South and the North. Sai Pallavi is an amazing actress and was always Nitesh Tiwari’s first choice.
Yash also told how he approaches the character of Ravana. He said that if he had been asked to play any character other than Ravana from ‘Ramayana’, he probably wouldn’t have even done the job. Yash said, ‘This is a very fascinating character. I’m not making this film for any other reason. If they ask me if I want to play any other character in ‘Ramayana’? Then probably not.
