Breaking News from Punjab (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: The Punjab government has moved the Center to change the amended rules made in 2022, while maintaining the tradition of appointing a member of the Punjab state power sector in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Punjab said that under the new conditions, no eligible candidate would be found in the state. Similarly, Punjab expressed all its rights over the Shanan project located in Himachal Pradesh and said that it has the rights over this project under the Punjab Reorganization Act.

In view of the need for more power and the limited capacity of Punjab’s hydro and thermal power projects, Punjab demanded that power be supplied to the state for a longer period from central plants. Today, here at Punjab Bhawan, the state government delegation led by Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundia, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh, ETO, and Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh presented their demands with arguments and facts to the Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. to whom the Union Minister expressed confidence in taking a positive stance in favor of Punjab.

Urgent focus on electricity and urban development

The Punjab government has firmly placed the state’s demands related to power and urban development before the central government. A meeting of the Coordination Committee on Central Government matters related to the Urban Development, Energy and Housing departments was held today. Punjab cabinet ministers said the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is pushing for various development works. The pending demands related to these two departments should be met soon.

The center should promote solar energy in the state.

During the meeting, Punjab sought to increase the capacity of subsidized solar pumps for agriculture to encourage solar energy, appealing for them to have at least 15 horsepower. It also demanded permission from Punjab mines to divert coal to private thermal power plants located at Talwandi Sabo in Nabha state. A reduction in the commercial margin of seven paise per unit was sought to promote renewable energy.

Punjab also demanded an extension of the time limit on the RDS scheme as the scheme was launched late in the state. There was also a demand to provide subsidies to plants that produce electricity from rice straw, such as biogas plants. Similarly, the capacity of rooftop solar projects was also required to be increased.
