New Delhi. Nowadays, samosas have become a topic of discussion in Himachal Pradesh politics. Who moved the Chief Minister’s samosa from here to there? It remains a puzzle for the Himachal Pradesh CID as the samosa ordered at a five-star hotel for Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu arrived on the wrong plate. A show-cause notice has been issued against five police officers, including a female inspector, in connection with the October 21 incident. The CID probe termed the careless consumption of three boxes of samosas and cakes as an anti-government act. Five policemen have reportedly been issued show-cause notices for eating samosas. Not only this, but strict disciplinary action has also been recommended against him. The investigation is ongoing. According to reports, on October 21, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh had gone to the CID headquarters to inaugurate the Sukhu Cyber Wing police station. However, before serving the samosas to the CM, samosas were distributed among the CM’s staff. Investigation revealed that only the SI knew that these boxes were especially for CM Sukhu. When they were handed over to the inspector, she did not confirm them with any senior officer and distributed them among CM staff and Mechanical Transport (MT) section for breakfast.
Samosas and cakes brought for Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu were mistakenly served to his security personnel, sparking a controversy and necessitating a CID probe, which was described as an anti-government act. A senior CID official, in his note on the October 21 incident, said that when the Chief Minister was visiting the CID headquarters, those responsible acted as per their agenda. The controversy began when three boxes of samosas and cakes were brought from the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lakkar Bazaar to be served to the Chief Minister, who was attending a function at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters on October 21.
However, according to the inquiry report by a deputy superintendent of police level officer, the food was served to the Chief Minister’s security personnel due to lack of coordination. The report said that an inspector general had asked a sub-inspector (SI) of police to bring some food items from the hotel for the prime minister’s visit. The SI, in turn, directed an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a head constable to bring food. The ASI and the police chief brought soft drinks in three sealed boxes from the hotel and informed the SI. The police officials said in their statement that when they asked the tourism department’s service staff whether the snacks kept in the three compartments were to be served to the Chief Minister, they replied that they were not included in the menu.
The investigation report states that only the SI, who had assigned the task of delivering breakfast from the hotel to the ASI and the police chief, knew that the three boxes were meant for Sukhu. The inspector, who was allotted the food, sent the snacks to the Mechanical Transport (MT) section, which deals with snacks, without consulting any senior officer. In this process, three boxes of soft drinks exchanged hands with many people. Interestingly, a senior official of the CID department wrote in his comment that all the people mentioned in the investigation report worked against the CID and the government, which is why these items could not be given to the VIPs. The comment said that he acted according to his agenda.
The police officers who issued the show cause notice are in the process of recording their final statement before the ranking investigating officer DSP, who recommended strict disciplinary action against the five, The Indian Express quoted a source as saying. The officer submitted his report to the IG (CID) on October 25. Ironically, sources close to the Chief Minister have told the media that he does not eat samosas or fried foods while recovering from a recent illness. The incident occurred on October 21 when CM Sukhu was visiting the CID headquarters to inaugurate the cyber wing station. Not knowing that the CM would not eat samosas, an Inspector General (IG) ranking officer ordered a sub-inspector to bring him three boxes of samosas and cake from the Radisson Blu Hotel.
