In fact, a case has been registered for spreading fake news by linking the suicide of a farmer in Haveri to a land dispute with the Waqf Board. Not only this, apart from Surya, action has also been taken against the editors of some Kannada news portals.
Sharing the news from these news portals on the social media platform but he allegedly committed suicide. He also accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan of having a dangerous influence in Karnataka.
Surya had alleged: “In a hurry to please the minorities, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Government of Karnataka Housing Minister, Waqf and Minority Development Minister B. Jade. Zameer Ahmed Khan has created a disastrous situation in the state, which with each passing day becomes impossible to stop.
The MP later deleted the post after the Haveri district superintendent of police termed the news article as fake. The police superintendent said: ‘The news shared is false. No such incident came to light. The farmer Rudrappa Channappa Balikai mentioned here was reported to have committed suicide on January 6, 2022. It is said that he committed suicide due to debts and crop failure.
He said a case under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been registered at Aadar police station and the final report has been submitted.
A senior police officer said, “Following the complaint of a police officer posted in the social media monitoring cell of Haveri district police, a case has been registered under section 353 (2) of the Code of Police. Justice of India (BNS) (promoting hatred, ill will or enmity between different groups). A case has been registered against the editors of ‘Kannada Duniya E-Paper’ and ‘Kannada News E-Paper’ and Tejasvi Surya under the IPC (Making, publishing or transmitting statements with intent to create or promote hatred). .
The dispute over Waqf lands has intensified in Karnataka. Jagdambika Pal, chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed to discuss the Waqf Amendment Bill, recently arrived in Karnataka, visited many districts and met farmers. Tejasvi Surya was also with him. Pal had said that the report of this visit will be presented in the winter session of Parliament. On the other hand, opposition JPC MPs have raised doubts about the intentions of Pal’s visit.
