Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Naxal-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday. Inspector General of Police of Bastar region Sundarraj P said that an encounter with Naxalites took place in the forest in Usur-Basaguda-Pamed area of the district. Two Naxalites died after an encounter lasting several hours.
DRG and CRPF soldiers joined hands
Sundarraj said that after receiving information about the presence of Maoists in Usoor-Basaguda-Pamed area of the district, a joint team of security forces was sent for an anti-Naxal operation. He said that soldiers of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Cobra Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) participated in this operation.
Loading rifles, hand grenades and many other weapons recovered
The police officer said that when the team was in the area today at 11 am, the Maoists started firing at the security forces. After this, the security forces also retaliated. After the firing stopped, the bodies of two Naxalites, one automatic rifle (SLR), hand grenades and locally made weapons were recovered from the spot, he said.
So far 191 Naxalites have been killed.
Sundarraj said the search operation is still going on in the area. The police officer said that with this incident, security forces killed 191 Naxalites in separate encounters in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. Earlier on October 4, security forces had recovered the bodies of 31 Naxalites after an encounter in a forest situated on the border of Narayanpur-Dantewada districts of the region.
