Even if you didn’t agree, you were willing to listen, Sibal said at CJI Chandrachud’s farewell ceremony.

CJI and Kapil Sibal.

Supreme Court Bar Association president Kapil Sibal praised Chief Justice DY Chandrachud at his farewell ceremony on Friday. Speaking at the farewell ceremony organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Kapil Sibal said that we may not agree, but we must congratulate them because they were willing to listen to him and take a decision. Let us tell you that DY Chandrachud retired on Friday as the 50th chief of the Indian judiciary.

At the farewell ceremony, Kapil Sibal said that in an imperfect world and in an imperfect court, a judge is evaluated based on how many times he has taken a step towards imperfection to protect life, protect liberty and equality.

He said that this is the criterion with which we will remember them. The court is not created by the walls of the court or the arches of the building, but by the work done by the judges to discharge their constitutional duty and protect civil rights and in this context, CJI Chandrachud delivered some unprecedented judgments.

Decision made on many complex issues.

Sibal said the CJI was prepared to take up complex issues. I must say that for years the previous Chief Justices did not allow themselves to address such issues… be it Article 370, gay marriage or electoral ties or any such important issue that has changed the contours of our existence and that can be call. address and you addressed it with great clarity. He said we may not agree, but we should congratulate him because he was willing to listen to it and make a decision.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal asked what is the benchmark when one has to travel as a court judge. We can criticize a judge as much as we want. You have to evaluate that person in the context of the times in which we live. When we talk about him, his demeanor, his affable demeanor, makes him one of the best judges in this country.

You allowed people to criticize: Sibal

Sibal said that YV Chandrachud was a judge for 17 years and CJI for 7 years and I had the opportunity to appear before him. I would like to say that CJI DY Chandrachud has actually performed better than him (former CJI YV Chandrachud).

Sibal said that 50 to 90 million people are disabled and you were the first CJI to take up this issue and you pushed it very quickly. You allowed people to criticize and what could be braver than that.
