In the Jharkhand Assembly elections 2024, the contest for Manoharpur seat in West Singhbhum district has become very exciting. This area is known for its natural beauty, but this time the political equations are up for debate. Manoharpur assembly constituency falls under Singhbhum parliamentary constituency. This seat is held by JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha). Joba Manjhi is the current MLA here.
Election activities are in full swing at the Manoharpur assembly headquarters. JMM has been in control here for the last 10 years. Voting will take place here on November 13. This constituency is reserved for the scheduled tribes. According to the 2011 census of India, its population was 90,142.
Registration process begins
The nomination process for the Manoharpur seat has begun. The nomination process will continue until October 25. Applications will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nominations will be reviewed on October 28 and can be withdrawn until October 30. The security money for general candidates is fixed at Rs 10,000, while SC/ST candidates will have to deposit Rs 5,000. Each candidate can spend a maximum of Rs 40 lakh.
Manoharpur electoral history
Since the formation of the new state of Jharkhand after its separation from Bihar, four assembly elections have been held here. Joba Manjhi has won three of these elections. At the same time, BJP’s Gurucharan Nayak once became an MLA from here. In the 2005 elections, Joba Majhi polled 26,810 votes and became an MLA. BJP’s Gurucharan Nayak came second in these elections. He obtained a total of 25,213 votes. In 2009, BJP candidate Gurucharan Nayak secured the maximum 27,360 votes and became an MLA. JMM candidate Navami Oraon came second with 21,090 votes. UGDP candidate Joba Manjhi came third. He obtained a total of 20,828 votes.
In 2014, JMM gave his ticket to Joba Majhi and he won with 50,558 votes. BJP’s Gurucharan Nayak got a total of 40,989 votes and came second. In 2019, Joba Majhi won again and was elected MLA. He obtained 50,945 votes. BJP candidate Guru Charan Nayak came second. He obtained a total of 34,926 votes.
