The dispute between India and Pakistan for the Champions Trophy does not seem to stop. Recently there were reports that an agreement had been reached between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the BCCI on the ‘hybrid model’, but now PCB president Mohsin Naqvi has denied this. Naqvi said he has not received any formal message from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that his team will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
On Friday morning, BCCI sources claimed that India had already officially told the PCB that they would not travel to Pakistan, but in the evening Naqvi denied this in a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium. Naqvi said that to date no one has discussed the “hybrid model” with him or is willing to talk about it. But he’s been showing a good attitude for the past few years and no one should expect him to do it all the time.
PCB waiting for Indian team
He said if such a proposal is submitted in writing to the PCB, he will take it to the government. Naqvi said that whenever a written proposal comes, he will inform the government and whatever decision he takes, it will have to be followed. Earlier, PCB had proposed to the BCCI that India could base itself in Delhi or Chandigarh and fly to Lahore on the day of the match and return only the day after the match, but it was rejected. Let us tell you that Team India has not toured Pakistan since 2008.
Notably, the Champions Trophy 2025 will be organized in Pakistan next year. After many years, a big tournament will be played in Pakistan. In such a situation, PCB is busy making its cricket stadiums world class. However, there are still doubts about the possibility of the Indian team going to Pakistan. Now it remains to be seen what decision is made in the coming days.
