At least 25 people were killed and 40 others injured in an explosion at Quetta train station in Pakistan on Saturday. Quetta Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Baloch said the 25 people whose deaths have been confirmed include fourteen Pakistani army soldiers. This explosion incident at Quetta main railway station was captured by CCTV, footage of which is going viral on the internet.
In the CCTV images you can see that hundreds of people are waiting for the train on the platform, when a large explosion occurs and chaos reigns. The explosion is so powerful that the roof of the station explodes and corpses are seen scattered on the platform. The condition of many of the injured is critical. Pakistan is grappling with a rise in terrorist attacks in the northwest and a growing separatist insurgency in the south. Quetta SSP Mohammad Baloch said, ‘The explosion took place inside the railway station when the Peshawar-bound express was about to leave for its destination. The Baloch Liberation Army has taken responsibility for this explosion. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) said the attack targeted military personnel on board the Jafar Express train as it prepared to leave the station.
The railway infrastructure has also been damaged by this incident. After this, officials cordoned off the area. Baloch Liberation Army spokesperson Ziand Baloch said: “We take responsibility for the explosion at Quetta railway station. A suicide attack was carried out this morning on a Pakistani army unit at Quetta railway station. when soldiers were returning on the Jafar Express after completing a course at the Infantry School. This attack was carried out by the BLA’s Majid Brigade suicide unit. More information will be released to the media soon.
