Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to his country after attending the 16th BRICS Summit in Russia. His visit was very important from a strategic point of view. Amid the war being fought on many fronts around the world, Prime Minister Modi met Russian President Putin and many heads of state at the BRICS Summit in the city of Kazan, but the center of attraction was the bilateral meeting between Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In such a situation, it is necessary to consider what India has achieved in this summit.
On his return to India, Prime Minister Modi described the BRICS tour as very successful and expressed his gratitude to Russian President Putin, his government and the people of Russia. He said that the BRICS Summit has brought positivity for all member countries, which is very important in this war environment.
When Modi and Jinping spoke after 5 years
The biggest ‘achievement’ of PM Modi’s entire tour was his bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. After what happened in the Galwan Valley in 2020, tension in relations between both countries was skyrocketing. But through this summit, the ice in India-China relations began to melt and both were able to sit at the negotiating table.
A bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping was held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the city of Kazan on Wednesday. This meeting lasted about 50 minutes. During this, both leaders adopted a positive attitude towards the agreement reached to end the military confrontation in LAC. During it, both leaders welcomed the agreement reached for the withdrawal of troops from LAC and resolve the dispute that began in 2020.
Call for peace once again in times of war
Stressing on proper resolution of disputes and differences between India and China, Prime Minister Modi said peace should not be allowed to be disturbed under any circumstances.
Addressing the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Modi said that this group does not support war but dialogue and diplomacy. He called on this forum to unite against terrorism and terrorist financing.
Prime Minister Modi said that we support dialogue and diplomacy and not war. The way we face an epidemic like Covid together. Likewise, we will create new opportunities to ensure a safer and more prosperous future for future generations.
When Putin said: Our relations do not need a translator
The BRICS Summit gave another new dimension to the friendship between India and Russia. Prime Minister Modi, who did not attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Kazakhstan in July, went to Kazan specifically to join the BRICS at the call of the Russian president.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi spoke in Hindi and President Putin in Russian. Translators were present to translate the words of both leaders into Russian and Hindi. But Putin, addressing Prime Minister Modi, said that relations between India and Russia are so close that I think my words can be understood even without the help of a translator. Prime Minister Modi laughed at this comment from Putin. This development shows the strength between the two leaders that grows stronger over time.
India can become a peacemaker to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine
During the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Modi once again reiterated India’s position on the Russia-Ukraine war. He told Putin that the war between Russia and Ukraine must be resolved peacefully and for this India is ready to provide all possible help. We have been in constant contact on the issue of the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. We believe that problems should be resolved peacefully. We fully support the restoration of peace and stability. India always tries to prioritize humanity and is ready to provide all possible support for the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
Important meeting with Iranian President Pejeshkian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the BRICS Summit. In this meeting, the two leaders discussed the needs of peace in West Asia and the role of India.
There was also talk of tension between Israel and Iran. Prime Minister Modi also invited President Pezeshkian to visit India, which the President accepted. The two leaders also discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in key areas, including the Chabahar port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
Focus on the concerns of the Global South
The Prime Minister spoke openly about the concerns of the Global South during the BRICS Summit. Recalling the Voice of the Global South summit organized by India during its G-20 presidency, he said BRICS should prioritize the concerns of the Global South.
Prime Minister Modi said there is a need to understand the hopes, aspirations and expectations of the nations of the Global South. The term Global South was first used in the 1960s. Initially this word meant the areas of Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. But little by little it began to be used in developing and third world countries.
India-UAE Strategic Partnership Review
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two leaders reviewed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the UAE and India and assessed it positively. He also spoke about the situation in Western Asia. They also agreed to continue efforts for the prompt restoration of peace, security and stability.
Prime Minister Modi met UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the BRICS Summit. He said it was a pleasure to meet with the President of the United Arab Emirates, my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Prime Minister Modi and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed shared views on various global issues.
Kazan declaration approved
