Parole granted ahead of Haryana Assembly elections
Rohtak News (Aaj Samaj): Rohtak: Dera Sachcha Sauda Mukhi Gurmeet Ram Rahim returned to Rohtak jail on Wednesday night after the 20-day parole period ended. Ram Rahim was granted parole for 20 days before voting during the Haryana Assembly elections. Which ended on Wednesday. During the probation period, Ram Rahim lived in Barwana Ashram, located in Uttar Pradesh. Opposition parties had also opposed the government’s decision to grant parole to Ram Rahim during the elections. The Congress had also written a letter to the Election Commission expressing its opposition to the grant of parole. He said that Ram Rahim can influence the elections. There are a large number of Dera followers in the state. Therefore, it is not right to grant parole to Ram Rahim. Dere has good influence in many seats in the assembly. Ram Rahim has been acquitted in a murder case
Ram Rahim was convicted on August 25, 2017 in the case of sexual exploitation of two nuns. He was arrested on August 27 of this year. For this case, on August 28, 2017, he was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. After which he is admitted to Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail. He was convicted on 11 January 2019 in the journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case and sentenced to life imprisonment on 17 January 2019. In 2021, he was also convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Ranjit Singh murder case. . However, on May 28 this year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court acquitted him in this case.
