Thursday will be a special day for UP public school children. That day, in addition to lunch, they will also receive nutritious snacks at school. Under the ‘Weekly Nutrition Programme’ in schools, students will be provided with groundnut chikki, millet laddus and roasted chickpeas. In the review meeting of the Basic Education Department, the UP Chief Minister gave instructions that arrangements should be made to start this scheme from November itself. At this time the cold is knocking on the door and this nutritious breakfast will be good for the students’ health. For this, the government has made a separate provision of Rs 95 crore.
1.74 million students receive lunch at midday
Currently, under the Prime Minister’s Poshan Yojana, 1.74 million students from classes 1 to 8 are provided with nutritious food in mid-day lunch in UP government schools. It also has a separate menu in which different food is offered each day so that children remain interested in the midday meal. Each student receives between 100 and 150 grams of cereals per day. But now, keeping in mind the interest and nutrition of the students, preparations are being made to offer delicious snacks like millet laddu, groundnut chikki and roasted gram. It will be taught during lunch time during their school hours. These snacks have been decided taking into account the cold weather and the children’s preferences.
There will be a social audit of the scheme
3.72 lakh cooks have also been appointed across the state to provide breakfast to students. They will receive an honorarium of Rs 2,000 (two thousand) every month and a uniform allowance of Rs 500 once a year. These cooks are also being trained so that they can prepare nutritious and tasty meals and snacks for the children. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave instructions in the Education Department meeting that this plan should be monitored continuously. Along with this, it has also been decided to carry out a social audit of the quality of breakfast.
