Sports Secretariat signs agreement with Minerva Football Academy
Punjab News (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: The state government is continuously striving to restore the former glory of the state in the field of sports. To fulfill this objective, while on one hand the state government is organizing Khedan Punjab Diyan, on the other hand the state government has taken another big step and signed an MOU with Minerva Football Academy. Which will help discover and perfect new football talents in the state.
Under this, the club will be able to play matches of the upcoming I-League season at the newly constructed sports stadium in Mahilpur (Hoshiarpur district). This step will prove to be an important milestone in the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government’s commitment to develop sports and nurture sporting talent among the youth.

The state’s sports infrastructure will be strengthened
This agreement will not only strengthen Punjab’s sports infrastructure by hosting I-League matches but will also provide support to young players who want to make a career in football. This I-League season will begin on December 19, 2024 and will conclude at the end of April 2025 with a total of 12 matches. Thousands of fans are expected to attend all these matches in Mahilpur, known as the nursery of football, some of whom will come from different states of the country.
This season will see the participation of 12 teams from different states of India, including veteran clubs like Dempo Sporting Club and traditional clubs like Churchill Brothers. This season’s I-League matches will be telecast on Euro Sports India and LiveTV, while online streaming will also be available on the Fan Code platform. With this, Mahilpur will emerge on the main stage of football at the national level.
