70 per cent of Haryana people are BPL holders, 70 lakh people added to poverty line in two years NTC

Of Haryana’s estimated 2.8 crore population, 1.98 million people, or around 70 per cent, fall in the BPL (below poverty line) category. Actually, people who fall in the BPL category get many benefits from the state government. In which 5 kg of cereals (wheat/millet) per person are delivered free of charge. Apart from this, two liters of mustard oil for Rs 40 and 1 kg of sugar for Rs 13.5 are delivered every month via BPL card.

75 lakh people joined in two years

Apart from the increasing numbers of BPL, what is even more shocking is that in the last two years, around 75 lakh people have been added to this category. As of December 2022, around 1.24 million people (44 percent of the total population) were listed in this category. But in the last two years their number has increased by around 26 per cent and now the figure is 1.98 crore. These figures raise doubts about the Haryana government’s claim to accelerate development in the state.

The state government said an investigation will be carried out.

Now doubts are arising about these figures. On this, minister Rajesh Nagar said that an investigation will be carried out. He said, ‘Parivar identity card has been linked to CRID, in which provision has been made for self-declaration, due to which 70 lakh people have been added to the BPL category in the last two years and the figure has reached 70%. Many people were in trouble because changes were made a few months ago. So that people don’t have to wait in the office. The department has nothing to do with this. People have taken their own decision and shown that their income is less than 1 lakh 80 thousand rupees. We are in touch with the officials and will meet the Chief Minister to look into the matter.

Highest number of BPL holders in this district

According to government figures, the number of BPL beneficiaries in Faridabad district is 14.29 lakh, the highest in any district in the state. After that are Hisar (13.55 lakh) and Mewat (13.49 lakh). Panchkula is at the bottom with a BPL population of 3.65 lakh.
