Voting will be held on Wednesday amid tight security for the by-elections in the south assembly constituency of Raipur city in Chhattisgarh. There are 30 candidates in the running for this position. The seat is vacant after BJP MLA and former state minister Brijmohan Agarwal resigned after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Raipur parliamentary constituency. An official associated with election work said here on Tuesday: “All preparations have been completed to conduct free and fair by-election in Raipur City South on November 13.” Voting hours are from 7 am to 6 pm.

The results will arrive on November 23.

Officials said there are 2,71,169 voters in this constituency, including 1,33,800 men, 1,37,317 women and 52 transgenders. For the partial elections, a total of 253 polling stations have been set up. Five companies of security personnel are being deployed to maintain law and order. The counting of votes will take place on November 23. He said the electoral parties were sent to their respective polling stations on Tuesday morning under strict surveillance of the security forces.

Direct contest between BJP and Congress

There are 30 candidates in the fray in the by-election, although it is believed to be a direct contest between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. The BJP has fielded former Raipur MP and former mayor Sunil Kumar Soni, while the opposition has fielded young Akash Sharma as its candidate.
