A New York judge temporarily suspended proceedings in the money case to maintain silence against the newly elected president of the United States, Donald Trump. This decision has been confirmed in a court document published on Tuesday. This case is related to the money given to an adult star for which Trump has been convicted to maintain his silence.
Following a Supreme Court decision in July declaring presidential immunity, Judge Juan Merchán was expected to rule Tuesday on whether Trump’s conviction should be overturned. Trump will be sentenced on November 26.
Procedure postponed until November 19
Prosecutors requested the postponement of the proceedings in an email to Merchan on Sunday, citing Trump’s Nov. 5 presidential election victory and his inauguration in January 2025. Prosecutors described it as “unprecedented circumstances.” In response, Judge Marchán granted the request and postponed all proceedings in the case until November 19.
What is the secret money case?
Donald Trump had sexual relations with adult star Stormy Daniels in 2006. This matter was highly discussed during the 2016 presidential election. Stormy threatened to make this incident public, after which Trump secretly paid her. Trump has been convicted of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to Daniels.
Previously, Stormy Daniels had told the court that when she first saw Trump, he was wearing silk pajamas. Describing that incident, Stormy Daniels said that Trump had asked me about my career in the adult industry. He had asked me if I had been tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Trump will be sworn in on January 20
Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025. The Republican Party has regained control of the Senate, where it has 52 seats while Democrats have 47. Republicans also have the advantage in the House of Representatives, where they have 216 seats, while the Democrats have 209 seats.
