UPI Payments

UPI is used more in India. According to NPCI, there has been a record rise in the number of people making UPI payments as well as the number of payments made through it. Most users who make digital payments give preference to UPI. Due to its popularity, many UPI related scams are also coming to light. This scam is not only done on common users but scammers also defraud merchants i.e. those who accept UPI payments.

If some things are not fixed in time, hackers can commit big fraud on you. The rise in digital connectivity and smartphone usage has completely changed the preference for making online payments in recent years. Due to the increasing number of online payments, digital fraud has also increased.

Fraud is committed in these ways

If you look at the cases that have come to light in the recent past, scammers are using fake apps with a UPI transaction interface. These interfaces look so real that even you can make mistakes. In this, merchants are defrauded by showing fake transactions. Apart from this, scammers are also adopting methods like auto-pay feature and QR code replacement. However, your vigilance can save you from these types of scams.

Keep these things in mind

  1. To prevent this type of fraud from happening to you, you will need to verify every transaction on the UPI app. As soon as someone pays you through UPI, open the UPI app and verify that transaction.
  2. Apart from this, you will also have to check your bank account periodically. You must match each transaction to the bank statement. Doing this will help track any fraud that may have happened to you.
  3. If you are a UPI merchant, you should not keep your QR code scanner in an open area. Because it is kept in an open area, scammers can manipulate it and take your account’s QR scanner. Due to this, every UPI payment made will go to the scammers’ account.
  4. Apart from this, another very important thing is that you have to have at least one UPI account. By doing this, you will not have any problem verifying the transaction. Since you have multiple UPI accounts, there may be difficulty in tracking the transaction.
