Both states have been asserting their rights in Chandigarh for the past few decades. On Wednesday, Punjab leaders once again expressed their full rights over Chandigarh and demanded that it be handed over to Punjab at the earliest.
In fact, on Wednesday, when the National Green Tribunal (NGT) approved the creation of a separate Haryana assembly in Chandigarh, Punjab politics also heated up. NGT approved giving away 10 acres of land in Chandigarh for a separate Haryana assembly. Different political parties in Punjab have started criticizing this. Political agitation has begun regarding the new Haryana Assembly building.

Chandigarh not found even after 58 years: Mann
Anmol Gagan Mann, former minister and MLA of Punjab Aam Aadmi Party government, while presenting the government’s side, said that in 1966, when Haryana was separated from Punjab and became a separate state, it was promised that after some time , Chandigarh would be shifted to Punjab. Until Haryana has its own capital, Chandigarh will remain a union territory. But today, 58 years have passed since Chandigarh was not handed over to Punjab.

NGT decision is absolutely wrong: Bajwa
Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa said Chandigarh was built by destroying 22 villages of Punjab. At the time of partition of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh was temporarily made the capital of both and arrangements were made to carry out administrative and government work from here. Haryana’s decision to form an assembly in Chandigarh is absolutely wrong.
