Just before the elections, SP leader Irfan Solanki was granted bail, but the sentence was not suspended.

Lucknow. In Uttar Pradesh, Irfan Solanki was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court, but the court refused to suspend his sentence. Irfan Solanki was convicted and sentenced for setting fire to a woman’s house. With the court’s decision, the suspense of the Sisamau assembly seat in Kanpur has ended. Irfan is the outgoing SP MLA from Sisamau seat in Kanpur.
Voting for this seat will also be held on November 20. The division bench of Justice Rajeev Gupta and Justice Surendra Singh delivered the verdict in this case. MLA Irfan Solanki and his brother Rizwan Solanki were sentenced to seven years in prison. The court has confirmed the sentence imposed on Irfan Solanki in this case. For now, he was granted bail from the Allahabad High Court.
SP MLA Irfan Solanki, his brother Rizwan Solanki and three other accused had set fire to Nazir Fatima’s house with the greed of taking over their plot. In the same case, the Kanpur MP MLA Special Court found him guilty and sentenced him to seven years in prison. Due to seven years in prison, Irfan Solanki’s membership in the Assembly was cancelled. Irfan Solanki had challenged the trial court’s decision before the Allahabad High Court. He had filed an appeal before the High Court against the decision of conviction and announcement of punishment.
In appeal, he had asked that the trial court’s decision be stayed and he be granted bail until the final decision of the court. The Supreme Court had also last month asked the Allahabad High Court to complete the hearing in this case and give its verdict within 10 days. In this matter, a government appeal was also filed in the High Court on behalf of the UP government. Irfan Solanki’s appeal sought annulment of the sentence. The UP government’s appeal demanded that the sentence be increased from 7 years to life imprisonment. However, following the government’s appeal, the court made no decision on whether to increase the sentence.
