According to the report, cybercriminals send digital wedding cards to people in WhatsApp messages. As soon as the user clicks to open that card, access to their device reaches the scammers and they are deceived. Scammers send wedding invitation messages to people on WhatsApp and also send a file along with them, which they are asked to download.
Nowadays it is wedding season in India. In such a situation, people easily get caught in this trap. The APK file is included in the fake invitations sent by hackers. As soon as users open this file, an application containing viruses or malware is installed on their phone. This app steals personal data from your phone and sends it to scammers. After this, the scammers start their game and commit fraud using your banking details.

The Himachal Pradesh police have warned people that if they receive a wedding invitation from an unknown number, do not click on it. Don’t open a digital wedding invitation unless you know the sender of the card. By doing this, a dangerous virus will enter your phone and your bank account will be empty. However, this is not the first case of cybercriminals adopting a new method to steal from people. Even before, hackers have defrauded people in the name of digital arrest, courier, e-commerce delivery, etc.
How to avoid it?
- In case of cybercrime, it can be said that caution is the only protection. The more careful you are, the more you can avoid these types of tricks.
- Ignore any messages or calls from an unknown number.
- Do not open the message until you have fully verified it.
- Android users, go to your phone settings and disable the APK installation from unknown source option.
- By doing this, you can avoid downloading any third-party APKs on your phone.
