Government telecom company BSNL has launched a satellite-to-device service in India. BSNL has become the first company in the country to launch this service. With the help of this service, you will be able to use telecommunication services even when there is no network.
For this, BSNL has partnered with American satellite communications company Viasat. The company had successfully demonstrated its two-way satellite messaging service at the Indian Mobile Congress 2024.
What will be the benefit?
From the name of satellite to device service it is clear that in this process, the service will be provided directly to the device with the help of satellite. Currently, to use telecommunication services we have to depend on telecommunication towers. Because of this, there is no network in many remote areas. In such a situation, with the help of satellite-to-device service, people in those areas will get better connectivity options.

Along with this message, DoT has also published a video explaining this service. Some time ago, Viasat had said that they are working with other companies, including BSNL in India, so that satellite services can be extended to consumers and IoT devices.
In the test, Viasat demonstrated two-way communication and emergency SOS messaging services. These services were demonstrated using non-terrestrial network (NTN) connectivity via a commercial Android smartphone.

However, the Department of Telecom, BSNL and Viasat have not shared any information regarding the availability, region and price of this service. Through this service, BSNL has definitely been a step ahead of other telecom companies.
