As popular as late actor Rishi Kapoor was among the audiences, he was equally bold in expressing his views. Rishi never hesitated while speaking and also spoke about aspects that actors of his time used to avoid. Even in his autobiography, Rishi had spoken openly about all aspects of life.
Rishi had also written openly in his book about his relationship with his father, Indian film icon Raj Kapoor. He had told him that he was very afraid of his father. Rishi had also mentioned that Raj Kapoor returned home drunk.
Raj Kapoor used to come home drunk, Rishi was very scared.
In his autobiography ‘Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored’, Rishi opened up about his strained relationship with his father. Rishi said that when he was a child, his father was away because he was always working.
Rishi had also said that even when Raj Kapoor returned home, he didn’t like it very much because the atmosphere at home was not very good. He wrote: ‘There was a time when I was a little boy and coming home was not pleasant at all. Those midnight moments haunted me for a long time. However, I haven’t shared these feelings with anyone very strongly, not yet. My father not only returned home late but was also under the influence of alcohol.
‘I will never scare my children’
Rishi further wrote how scared he was. He wrote: “Every day I worried about the mood or condition he would arrive in today, I worried that he would come drunk and start fighting with my mother.” I was afraid of my father. And I’m sure this fear arose from his first bouts of drinking. However, I was still a little kid at the time, and that’s when I promised myself that when I grow up, I won’t scare my kids like this.
Let us tell you that Raj Kapoor had three sons and a daughter. His sons Randhir, Rajiv and Rishi Kapoor also worked in films. Rishi himself and his son Ranbir Kapoor debuted with the film ‘Saawariya’ in 2007. After his last blockbuster ‘Animal’, Ranbir has started being called a superstar.
