In fact, the BCCI has informed the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises that there will be two groups of prominent players in the mega auction. The mega auction will be held on November 24 and 25.
As per the information received from the franchises, BCCI has told them that there will be two marquee lists of 8-9 players in each set. While it’s not unusual to have two groups of marquee players in a mega auction, the previous big auction in 2022 only had one. However, there were two sets in the auctions of 2018 and 2014. Players who have reached the elite level include Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc and Jos Buttler. The mega auction will be held at Jeddah’s Abadi Al Johar Arena, also known as Benchmark Arena.
Players will receive a shower of money in a mega auction
Each featured player has been kept at a base price of Rs 2 crore. In such a situation, it is expected that at the end of the first two sets between 30 and 50 percent of the total available auction will have been spent. Each franchise is likely to acquire at least two big names, whose price could range between Rs 20-25 crore on an average. All franchises have already recently spent Rs 558.5 crore of the estimated Rs 1,200 crore on retention.
Punjab Kings have the biggest purse
BCCI has asked the franchises to suggest new names that they want to include in the auction. The franchises have also been asked to respond to the registration before November 12 with the list of players they want to include in the final list. If each franchise has a maximum of 25 players in its team, then 204 players will be purchased in the auction, of which 70 can be foreign players. Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the highest purse. He has more than 110 crores in his bag.
