Following the growing agitation by students in Prayagraj, following the government’s intervention on Thursday, the Provincial Public Service Commission (PCS) of Uttar Pradesh accepted the candidates’ demand. The Commission decided that the PCS exam will be conducted in a single day and in a single shift.
Following agitation by thousands of students, the Commission had to withdraw this decision within 10 days. Despite this decision of the government, the students’ agitation continues in Prayagraj and they have decided that their protest will continue until all their demands are accepted. So, let us know why students continue to protest even though the government’s demands are met.
What student demands did the government accept?
-UPPSC on Thursday withdrew the decision to conduct the exam in 2 shifts that was taken on November 5. The Commission decided to conduct the UP PCS exam again as per the previous pattern and officially confirmed it by publishing a notice on its website.
-As per decision of the Commission, now the PCS (Preliminary) exam will now be conducted in a single day and in a single shift.
-The government has constituted a high-level committee for the examination of RO and ARO, which will take the final decision after the report arrives.
Why do students report incomplete victory?
Despite the government accepting the demand, the students’ protest continues in Prayagraj. The students say their protest will continue until all their demands are accepted. The competitive students’ protest also continued last night.
-Actually, students from two oppositions are involved in this movement. PCS Review and Pre-Review Officer-Assistant Review Officer, known as RO-ARO.
Until now it was that the PCA pre-exam will be held in two sessions on December 7 and 8. As the students became agitated, it was now announced that, as before, the day would be completed in one shift. That means the demand was met.
-The Reviewing Officer-Assistant Reviewing Officer exam that was to be held on December 22 and 23. For now it has simply been postponed. But a committee has been formed to make further decisions.
-It has been requested that a committee be formed regarding the RO/ARO exam, now it is not yet clear what kind of committee it will be and whether the exam will be conducted in one shift or not. Candidates say the government should first clarify when the RO/ARO exam will be held and what the committee will decide.
-The students protested against the decision to postpone the RO and ARO exams and said that the Commission should immediately issue the notification of this exam, only then they will end their protest.
The real reason for students’ concern
The exam for which the movement is still continuing is the Review Officer-Assistant Review Officer exam. There are total 411 posts and there are 10 lakh 76 thousand candidates. This means that there will be competition among 2,618 young people for a position. In the midst of such tough competition, his first presentation was held on February 11, 2024. Which was leaked. When students first moved to cancel the exam due to the leaked paper, the exam was canceled in March.
Now that the date of December 22 and 23 arrived, there was a scramble of four shifts in two days. Then when there was a protest, the exam was postponed but abandoned after trusting the committee. This is the reason why students want the notification for Meeksha Adhikari-Assistant Revision Officer exam also to be released immediately.
