The Central Investigation Agency carried out search operations at over 23 locations in the case where a Malegaon businessman is accused of allegedly using fake documents and fake KYC to open multiple bank accounts. Transactions worth more than Rs 100 crore are believed to have been made through these accounts and BJP is calling it ‘Vote Jihad’ scam.

ED raids 23 locations in money laundering case

These raids were carried out in 23 locations in the election-bound state of Maharashtra and the neighboring state of Gujarat. It is alleged that the businessman allegedly used fake documents and fake KYC to open multiple bank accounts, resulting in transactions of over Rs 100 million.

In this money laundering case, two people have been arrested on charges of buying votes by giving millions of rupees to the poor. The BJP calls this matter a ‘Vote Jihad’ scam. The matter came to light when BJP leader Kirit Somaiya alleged that around Rs 125 crore was sent from a bank in Malegaon through hawala traders and then this money was sent to various accounts. The purpose of this money was supposedly to influence voters before the elections.
