The merger of Reliance Industries’ Viacom 18 and The Walt Disney’s Disney Star has finally been completed. This information was provided by both companies through a press release on Thursday. With the merger of both, JioStar.com will now be its new address. This is the official website of the company.
At JioStar.com you will get information about the merger of both companies. However, this URL is currently the company’s website. It has not been presented like any streaming platform. It was speculated that after the merger, content from both OTT platforms would be available only on JioStar.com, but that is not the case for now.
What happened?
Under this merger, the rights to famous television brands like Star and Colors will remain with the new company. There will also be a merger of Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar. Post merger, JioStar has an ecosystem of over 100 television channels and the company has a user base of 5 million on the digital platform.

JioStar has rights to cover sports content like IPL, football and other popular events. Recently JioStar.com has been launched. However, the company has not provided information about the content, subscription and other services of both OTT platforms.
One name and more than 100 channels
Nita Ambani has been appointed as the chairperson of this joint venture, while the vice-chairman is Uday Shankar. Under JioStar, more than 100 television channels will produce more than 30 thousand hours of television content every year, which will be delivered to the people through these channels.

The company has appointed three CEOs to manage them. Kevin Vaz has been given the responsibility of entertainment, Kiran Mani has been given the responsibility of digital operations and Sanjog Gupta has been given the responsibility of sports content. Viacom 18 owns 46.82 percent stake in this joint venture, while Disney owns 36.84 percent and RIL 16.34 percent.
What will happen to Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar?
Before this merger, there was speculation that the companies would also merge content from these two platforms. However, this does not appear to be happening at the moment. The company has not given any information about the content and subscription of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. An announcement in this regard is expected to be made soon.
